BMR

Hi.  I know there is plenty of information out there on Diet & Fitness.  want to learn more about what it takes to live healthy and exercise.  If I research it and blog it as I go....then I can help you and me.  So here goes...

Lets start by learning about BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate)

What is a BMR you ask??
It is your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).  That is the number of calories you would burn if you did absolutely nothing during the day.  This is the amount of calories you burn just to do your basic living.

Example would be pumping your blood....breathing....maintaining your body temperature.

Every year it seems to become harder and harder for people to eat whatever they want and to stay slim.  And as we age our BMR gets lower.

If you deprive yourself of food then your BMR will decrease.
If you exercise your BMR will increase.

Calculate your BMR
English BMR Formula for Women

Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

Example of BMR of a woman who weighs 154 pounds.  She is 5'6" and is 45 years old.

655 + (4.35 x 154) + (4.7 x 66) - (4.7 x 45) =
655 + 666.9 + 310.2 - 211.5 = 1,420.6 is the BMR

English BMR Formula for Men

Men: BMR = 66 + ( 6.23 x weight in pounds ) + ( 12.7 x height in inches ) - ( 6.8 x age in year )

Example of BMR of a man who weighs 204 pounds.  He is 6'0" and is 38 years old

66 + (6.23 x 204) + (12.7 x 72) - (6.8 x 38) =
66 + 1,336.92 + 914.4 - 258.4 = 2,058.92 is the BMR

If you would prefer to not have to do the math....then here is a link to a BMR calculator online:

Once you know your BMR then you know how many calories your body burns just by living.
